The Ticket to Healing
Jamaica Muslim Center Youth and The Heal Collective invite you to “The Ticket to Healing,” a discussion about understanding depression, suicide prevention, and how to help those who are struggling mentally.
Compared to other age groups, youth in the U.S. are struggling most with their mental health. 9.7% of youth in the U.S. have severe major depression.
Experiencing serious thoughts of suicide is also increasing among adults; in September of 2020, 37% of people reported having suicidal thoughts nearly every day.
Moreover, 38% of people are not receiving the mental health services that they need, even in states with the most access.
These statistics from Mental Health America demonstrate the prevalence of mental health challenges in our society and the necessity for us to educate ourselves:
What IS depression? How can we identify symptoms of depression in those around us and in ourselves? How can we help those around us, or ourselves, who are struggling mentally with depression or suicidal thoughts?
We are honored to have Omar Shareef, MD/MBA and Bisma Anwar, LMHC from The Heal Collective as our speakers.
The Heal Collective is an emerging collective with a clear mission: to destigmatize mental health challenges by creating forums of education, advocacy, and awareness for mental health challenges.
